I can%26#039;t do more than about 1 1/2 of a pirrouette on flat, and not even one on pointe. I%26#039;ve only been on pointe for a couple of months so turns aren%26#039;t the best things for me yet... Any advice?
How do you get better at pirrouettes? (on pointe and flat)?
Practice and more practice.
How do you get better at pirrouettes? (on pointe and flat)?
practice on flat first and get that down first and when you first start ur rotations make sure to %26#039;spring off%26#039; with a lot of energy
Reply:Practice. shoulders down. body up and make sure there is just enough energy for you to work with.. keep practicing...
Reply:Stay firm and stay on your box on pointe. But dont look so firm as a robot, look firm but hide it with flowiness.
Good luck!
Reply:ok practice releve passe a lot and watch urself in the mirror
Reply:on pointe, keep your ankles firm but not stiff. point your feet enough so that you get over the box (but not too much over). pull up your spine; imagine a string holding you up by the back of your neck. when you pull yourself up, you will hardly tilt back, front, side, etc. if you do, correct your posture. your arms should not be hanging out nor hugged too tight. make sure that you let your arms guide you, because they can make you do more pirouettes. and always remember to spot.
Reply:Most often, you work your arms more than you do your legs. There is a tendency to pull the arms in faster than you can complete your preparatory pli茅. When your arms move faster and stronger than your legs, that energy you are using becomes the weight that pulls you off balance. A rule to remember: ARMS NEVER MOVE FASTER THAN LEGS. In other words, your arms don%26#039;t pull your legs up from the pli茅 to your pass茅. Your arms also don%26#039;t turn your head. Your arms should reflect the coiling of your spine and help your legs to complete the pli茅. I hope this helps!
Reply:practice practice practice!!
Reply:always always spot your head :)
whip your head around, pull up, do a good
preparation. bend as much as you need to -
i always think i look stupid doing my prep but
i can do about 3.5 pirouettes now!
on pointe, don%26#039;t make your ankles too stiff.
Reply:Spotting and pulling up through the spine, abs, and ribcage are key here. No big wind up, no throwing the shouldars to increase your rotation...which actually throws most of us off balance anyway!
Reply:practice - stay focused
in pirouettes a strong relev茅 is essential - as well as core strength - so get a really good pli茅 with your heels on the floor - without that you are never going to be able to make double
practice on flat first - only when you feel confident enough move onto point and before you turn , prepare, relev茅 and hold it.
good luck!
Reply:well when you first start pointe, dont expect to be able to do tons of pirouettes. Your feet have to strengthen up and get used to having more than 100 pounds all on your toes. but once your feet to strengthen, make sure you pull up like crazy, spot, and in passe, you should be aiming the pointed fot towards your crotch. and the most important thing is to GO FOR IT. even if you do 3 turns but then fall on your butt, you still did three turns and if you keep going for it eventually you will be able to get a clean triple (or more) =]

The people dancing were %26quot;flopping%26quot; around on the dance floor. I can%26#039;t remember the name of the song they were dancing to, but I want to find a video so I can learn the dance.
Any ideas what I%26#039;m talking about??

Weight and going en pointe?
How big a deal is a dancers weight and dancing pointe?
I am a big girl 5%26#039;10%26quot; and 180lbs, and no I am not making any excuses about my weight, I need to lose some.
Do you have any suggestions on diet, or even a good weight to shoot for?
I have not gone on pointe yet, and I feel my weight might be holding me back, I know I am to heavy for partnering, but I would love to do some solo en pointe, do you think just improving my strength will be enough?
Weight and going en pointe?
When I went en pointe my instructor required a visit to a podiatrist (foot doctor) to help determine whether I was strong enough, so maybe that%26#039;d be an option for you or you could just speak with your instructor about it. I doubt your weight would be TOO big a deal as long as you%26#039;re strong enough in your feet, ankles, etc. to handle it. If you were 5%26#039;10%26quot; and 280lbs then okay, that%26#039;d be an issue. But your size might be more manageable.
Weight and going en pointe?
If you are new to dancing pointe, take it slowly at first and consider doing some pilates to develop your muscles in a more gentle way. Pilates is an AWESOME way to get into shape, and it will really help you to gain the strength you%26#039;ll need for pointe. Training on a machine is pretty pricey, but you%26#039;ll get a good workout from mat classes, too.
I also had to see a podiatrist before going into pointe. Most ballet schools require you to see one if you are under 12 when you%26#039;re starting because your feet are still developing %26amp; pointe is seriously hard on your feet. Even after 12 it%26#039;s a good idea to see one and make sure they are strong enough. Word of warning: your feet are going to freaking kill you at first. Soaking them in an Epsom salt bath will help them feel so much better.
I wouldn%26#039;t worry too much about your weight. I%26#039;m actually underweight, and trying v hard to gain weight...which is hard to do when you dance! My best friend lost 25 pounds when she started dancing! It just fell off of her. It probably will on you, too. Don%26#039;t focus on your weight - focus on your dancing - and the weight will sort itself out.
There are waaaaaaaay too many girls who spend too much time worrying about their weight. Just eat healthily. Be sure to drink plenty of water and eat lots of fruit and protein (I%26#039;m a vegetarian, so I have a lot of shakes %26amp; eggs.) I%26#039;ve found that coca de mate tea really gives me energy before class.
One of the most talented, amazing dancers at my school is a little larger. She%26#039;s busty %26amp; curvy....and the girl has mad talent. She smokes out the skinny minnies like me on the floor.
Beautiful ballerinas are the ones w passion and talent.
: )
Reply:weight has nothing to do with it. though i agree that you should consider going to a foot doctor.
i know a girl who used to dance at our studio. and she was big, bigger than most of the other girls. but she was a BEAUTIFUL dancer. don%26#039;t let size stop you from trying.
and for partnering, it%26#039;s all in your mind. if you think light, you will be light and airy. even if you are bigger you can still partner, you just won%26#039;t be able to do some lifts.
hope this encourages you to become one of the many non-average, amazing, sensational ballerinas of the next century.

Can anybody tell me what an ideal healthy weight is for dance?
Ok so I dance ballet, though I am pretty big, and overweight 5%26#039;10%26quot; 180lbs, and I am wondering if anyone can please tell what an ideal weight would be for my height?
Thanks! In advance :)

Your weight is very good for your height. I%26#039;m 5%26#039;5 and about 130. Maybe you could drop 10 or 15 pounds.

You are pretty close. About 165.

OK, I see alot of street hip-hop dancers wearing these athletic looking gloves? What type are they?
I need to buy a pair, maybe to improve my look while doing certain moves, if anyone can help me...
I am in search for the remix dance verison the song Menory from the Muscial Cats.?
You can actually do the Cha Cha. Very %26quot;catchy%26quot; sound. I need to know who the artist is.
I need to make up a dance that I can perform. Can you help?
It can be any dance style, to any song. I would love to do something that looks really good, but I%26#039;m not a brilliant dancer. I need inspiration. The main styles of dance I do are IDTA Latin, Ballroom and disco freestyle. I%26#039;ve done up to gold bar 2 disco exams and have samba, cha cha cha, rumba, square tango and rock n roll one-dance medals. I%26#039;ve also done a tiny bit of ballet, jazz, street and contempary as part of GCSE. Please help.
I need to make up a dance that I can perform. Can you help?
i do jazz and pop and just make up moves that really express you and that are big!!! but not to big and bragy!
I need to make up a dance that I can perform. Can you help?
Dance is the music interpreted into movement and as long as your body%26#039;s movements reflect the music being heard, you cannot go wrong.
Kate Bush was amazing at interpreting her music into dance, you can see her videos on You Tube. Have a look, I am sure she will inspire you.
Reply:if you%26#039;re not good at movement improvisation... i think the best place to start is doing moves you know well and that you think you could pull off well. high kicks and jumps/leaps tend to impress people.
once you compile all those moves, start doing them but changing them a bit so long as it still feels good/okay.
if you%26#039;re not brilliant... changing levels always shows finesse and more skill than you may have. I love being on low levels because it looks brilliant when its not that hard.
putting in tons of energy is always key. just do movement that feels good and organic (like they flow together --not like movements put together).
i love the hip action from the samba and footwork from all latin ballroom.. maybe incorporate that?
if you really want a strong base... try taking improv classes or contemporary classes. after two semesters of movement improv classes, i feel as though i can dance (at all times) as though i%26#039;m performing without having choreography prepared.

Reply:Well if I am trying to make up a dance, I find it extremely useful to go into my room put on some music (any) and just dance.
This makes your moves less choreographed and more flowing in my opinion. It lets your body do the talking and then you can just choose which piece of music made you dance the best.
Like put on some hip-hop and if your body happily makes you grind, then that%26#039;s the right type!
If you put on a slow, beautiful piece of music and you start to dramatically ballet dance, then that%26#039;s the right type!
Basically let your heart choose it for you, then properly choreograph the dance later.
This works for me, hope it helps!

Reply:She dances to Annie Lennox%26#039;s song %26quot;Wonderful%26quot;. She%26#039;s a contemporary dancer, she does flare kicks and rolls on the floor, does triple arabesque pirouettes and gracefully comes out of them with a kick. She has beautiful lines and her face exuberates her deep passion for dance.
Look at some neat dance vids of contemporary dancers for help on how to describe her movement. My personal favorite is Travis Wall, from the 2nd season of So You Think You Can Dance. He did his final solo on the song %26quot;Wonderful%26quot;, I%26#039;ve added a link to it below.
Hope that helps!

I dont know how to write this.....good?
I am writing a dance essay and i need to describe the beginning of the dance and how i started but i dont know how to make it sound all grammatically correct and quite literate.
I need to say that i started on the floor, legs bent, head resting on them with arms hanging next to me with hands resting on floor.
Then i stretch my legs out, move both arms together and they help pull me and then i dop to the floor.
Please help i am in a real pickle! Thanks .x.

explain what motives you had like if you used movements that made you think about the topic and why.
Reply:I have tried to visualise this and am struggling slightly meaning that you do need to rephrase slightly - dance is very difficult to describe though - so as someone else suggested - try and use imagary where possible....
Would be it correct to say.... start sat on the floor, with knees bent into the chest, head resting on knees - arms hanging loosely by sides with palms (?) into the floor?
Then - which direction do you stretch legs.... do you stretch legs forward in front of body?
How do your arms come together..... do you lift arms to shoulder height and then bring them together in front of the body..... or do you raise both arms towards the ceiling..... think about what direction you move body parts and how they get there....
don%26#039;t know if that helps at all???

How can i learn to do a split fast?
i%26#039;ve made the cheering squad for the second year in a row and i%26#039;ve always have been a base(a side spot in stunting) or a back spot and this year im going t obe back spotting!!!! =] and a matter of fact im back spotting my best friend =) but my other bff is caption and is making up a dance for us to do at half time and i want to tumble in it but i cant tumble but im advanced like i can do alot but not like ariels and other stuff but i am attending a gymnastics class next week but befor i go i would like to no how to do a split ....any answers?????
How can i learn to do a split fast?
There is no instant way to teach your body to do this trick. You have to slowly stretch out your muscles by going as far into a split position as you can without much discomfort each day, once or twice a day. Then hold that position for about 10 counts. Over time your muscles will gain flexibility. Never push yourself so that you are in pain and always warm up first with general stretches, or you could really get hurt!
People%26#039;s natural flexibility varies so don%26#039;t get discouraged if you%26#039;re not naturally a gummbie girl.
How can i learn to do a split fast?
it%26#039;s not something you just learn you have to be flexible, for example I used to take ballet I started when I was 5 we had to stretch ALL the time and then after a while (I don%26#039;t remember how long it took) I could do a split (and still can) but some of the other girls took alot longer, and some of them (the skinniest ones who you would think would be able to do them) still can%26#039;t. So I suggest stretching and trying to go down more and more everday. Good Luck.
Reply:stretching is good i never knew how to do a split but i will stay in it for 1min or30 seconds and push myself frther i seen an improvement on myself next thing u know im doing a split besides ballet did pay off
Reply:Ok, this really works, i tried it and i am now able to do the splits. Everyday stretch your legs. Do the same leg stretches a few times for awhile. (To make the stretching easier, warm up your muscles by running or jogging, or maybe doing jumping jacks.) Next time, stretch your legs again, but this time see if you can go a little bit more beyond your limit from the last time you stretched. Keep doing the same thing everyday but push your limit a little farther everytime. This helped me, so it might help you too.
(Be patient, you can%26#039;t rush your body%26#039;s flexibility)
=)

Have you guys heard of Monster Woo and the Woo Fam from South Korea..?
Yeah I doubted it hahaha, and neither did I..
They%26#039;re krumpers in a country where they think/thought krumping is nothing (if you agree with that, .. I don%26#039;t care haha)

This is my favorite video of Monster Woo himself because he had to %26#039;krump%26#039; and freestyle to music other than krumping music (if you read the comment below the video) to show that krumping is actually dancing:

The audience reaction makes it so awsome hahaha
I just think it%26#039;s awsome that Monster Woo and his %26#039;fam%26#039; is paving the way for krumpers in their country...
Like they%26#039;re legitimate.

Was that the one with the girl who came with her mother, and they said she looked like Uma Thurman?
Was it this one:
Parameters by Ani DiFranco
thirty-three years go by
and not once do you come home
to find a man sitting in your bedroom
that is
a man you don%26#039;t know
who came a long way to deliver one very specific message:
lock your back door, you idiot
however invincible you imagine yourself to be
you are wrong
thirty-three years go by
and you loosen the momentum of teenage nightmares
your breasts hang like a woman%26#039;s
and you don%26#039;t jump at shadows anymore
instead you may simply pause to admire
those that move with the grace of trees
dancing past streetlights
and you walk through your house without turning on lamps
sure of the angle from door to table
from table to staircase
sure of the number of steps
seven to the landing
two to turn right
then seven more
sure you will stroll serenely on the moving walkway of memory
across your bedroom
and collapse with a sigh onto your bed
shoes falling
thunk thunk
onto the floor
and there will be no strange man
suddenly all that time sitting there
sitting there on what must be the prize chair
in your collection of uncomfortable chairs
with a wild look in his eyes
and hands that you cannot see
holding what?
you do not know
so sure are you of the endless drumming rhythm of your isolation
that you are painfully slow to adjust
if only because
yours is not that genre of story
still and again, life cannot muster the stuff of movies
no bullets shattering glass
instead fear sits patiently
fear almost smiles when you finally see him
though you have kept him waiting for thirty-three years
and now he has let himself in
and he has brought you fistfuls of teenage nightmares
though you think you see, in your naivete
that he is empty handed
and this brings you great relief
at the time
new as you are, really, to the idea that
even after you%26#039;ve long since gotten used to the parameters
they can all change
while you%26#039;re out one night having a drink with a friend
some big hand may be turning a big dial
switching channels on your dreams
until you find yourself lost in them
and watching your daily life with the sound off
and of course having cautiously turned down the flame under your eyes
there are more shadows around everything
your vision a dim flashlight that you have to shake all the way to the outhouse
your solitude elevating itself like the spirit of the dead
presiding over your supposed repose
not really sleep at all
just a sleeping position and a series of suspicious sounds
a clanking pipe
a creaking branch
the footfalls of a cat
all of this and maybe
the swish of the soft leather of your intruder%26#039;s coat
as you walk him step by step back to the door
having talked him down off the ledge of a very bad idea
soft leather, big feet, almond eyes
the kinds of details the police officer would ask for later
with his clipboard
and his pistol
in your hallway

How can I improve my upper body strength (i'm a girl)?
I want to start teaching myself how to breakdance. I can do a handstand but i can%26#039;t hold myself up for freezes. How can I improve my upper body strength? I%26#039;m quite strong compared to most people, and how long do you think it%26#039;ll be til I%26#039;m strong enough to do it?
%26#039;Something I tried to was to start on a headstand, but my knees on my elbows then lift my head off but my arms couldn%26#039;t take the weight.
I need tips desperately and say how long it should take it if I do it every day!
How can I improve my upper body strength (i%26#039;m a girl)?
Swimming - use a leg float and make your arms do the work!
How can I improve my upper body strength (i%26#039;m a girl)?
Have you thought of joining a gym maybe? fitness instructor?
Reply:I got this months (i think its monthly) Tesco mag free, I know wot ur thinkin, old people mag, but it had some really good tips on 1 of the double pages about toning and stuff, my arms feel stronger already, plus its free.
Reply:Start with doing pushups and tricep dips; well - basically any exercise where you use your body to hold your own weight. You can do pushups with your arms narrow to your chest, which will work your triceps more, or wide. Experiment with different hand positions. You may have to start with %26quot;girl pushups%26quot; on your knees, but in time you%26#039;ll work up to a full on your toe pushup.
Consider some yoga poses like cobra, and a low plank.. they use a lot of strength and improve your core. You can also start in a tripod head/handstand and gradually lift yourself a tiny bit. Try a yoga class if you can afford it or find a free class.. some of the poses, done properly, are awesome for increasing strength without too much muscle.
You can also buy chin up bars cheaply that fit into a door frame. Lifting your own weight is awesome for upper body strength.
Try some easy weightlifting exercises using full cans of soup or water, and go on low speed, fewer reps. You%26#039;ll be amazed at how this can increase strength and indurance. I challenged a guy I knew one, a real %26quot;lifter type%26quot;. He didn%26#039; last long.
A weightlifting routine would be beneficial. Don%26#039;t worry - you won%26#039;t %26quot;bulk up%26quot;.. girls don%26#039;t have the testosterone for that. You WILL gain muscle and strength!
Most strength training you want to do every other day vs. every day. This allows time for the muscles to heal themselves after the workout and allows them to come back stronger.
Good luck!
Reply:maybe a gym or dancing... sweets
Reply:Sal*UK is right; swimming is good. I would suggest breast stroke, concentrating on the arms. Also, do you have anyone you can arm wrestle? (a brother would do) left and right arms.
A simple exercise you can do while watching TV is to press the heels of your hands together. Do it a few times with your hands in front, to the left and to the right. Then hook your fingers together in the same positions and pull.
Reply:You need to work your upper body strength with push ups. There%26#039;s lots of types you can do.
Regular: works out your chest muscles
Knuckles: has the regular motion but your holding yourself up on your knuckles while yur hands are in a fist. This helps out your forearms
Diamond: put your handstogether in the middle and form a triangular or diamond shape and go down. This is more difficult since you mostly rely on your arm strength.
Bicep: Instead of your arms bending outwards, have them bend like your doing a bicep curl
These are very helpful because they are all cardio. You can do weightlifting if you want but that mostly increases your size, pushups help you with strength and detail. You have to do these everyday. You will see some results in about 2 to 3 weeks. Make some time, like before you go to sleep, to do them. Also, remember:
Diet: you have to eat a bit more meat, don%26#039;t go for pork. Go for the leaner meats like eggs, chicken, turkey and seafood. eat some meat after you work out so your body has protiens to build muscle.
Run or any other energy burning sports: No offense but if you have more than a bit of fat then burn it with stuff like that so you less weight to hold up when your doing handstands. It usually takes about 30 mins before it takes effect. Don%26#039;t eat right before you go to sleep or else you won%26#039;t burn any calories.
Swimming is good but pushups are better since your holding your body weight like you would in a handstand. In swimming your just swing your arms to pull yourself in the water.
%26#039;Something I tried to was to start on a headstand, but my knees on my elbows then lift my head off but my arms couldn%26#039;t take the weight.

How can I convince my mom to let me do dance company?
My mom doesn%26#039;t think I%26#039;m ready to go to dance 3 times a week. She doesnt think I want it enough to pay that much money. But it%26#039;s all I want! How do I show her I love dance and it%26#039;s what Itruly want?
How can I convince my mom to let me do dance company?
Well.. Dance for her!
Put some music and dance! I think if your mom see you, maybe you will convence her.
If the money is the problem, get a job and tell her that you will pay too.
How can I convince my mom to let me do dance company?
Prove it to her show her that you ready.. start dancing in the house to show interest
Reply:Go to a dance performance, and come home and tell her all about it. Name some dance steps that they danced and show them to her. Do some basic dance steps around the house to show her that you really want it. Maybe do an arabesque while you do the dishes, or plie while you do your homework. My passion is ballet, and I%26#039;m part of a ballet company. I love it, and I commmunicated that to my parents by talking about ballet all of the time until it drove them crazy! They finally got fed up with it, and signed me up for a dance class. I came home happy and full of joy and I told them ballet was my passion. So, I told them to come and watch my dance class, and they did. They said that I was a natural dancer. As soon as the audition came along, they signed me up. I%26#039;m still dancing! In fact, I%26#039;m about to leave for rehersal right now, toodles!

Do you consider dance a sport?
i will pick one answer at random for 10 pts. doesn%26#039;t matter what your answers is so take a chance!
Do you consider dance a sport?
Nope. It%26#039;s an art.
Do you consider dance a sport?
Yeah, it is. It improves your stamina and strength. It keeps your weight down. It%26#039;s fun, it releases the hormones that all other sports release.
Reply:Yes because my cousin did it as a sport.
Reply:Yes, its a good work out

Yes, dance is a sport.
this statement is true because a sport is something that challenges your physical strength, and physical struggle is def. required to achieve success in dance.
No, dance isn%26#039;t a sport.
This is also a true statement because dance requires more than just physical struggle- it also demands emotional and mental to achieve success in a dance.
thus, dance is AND isn%26#039;t a sport. it is a sport, an art, but most of all, a struggle.
Reply:Yes, B/c I heard that you can lose weight if you do it, and I%26#039;ve heard that dancing is considered a type of sport!
Reply:Yes! i think it is! the amount of training that goes into being a dancer and the strength is equal or even more challenging than a football player!! dancers are athlets and i know at lease 1/2 a dozen AFL football players who would kill to know the secret behind a dancers jump!! many have even taken ballet classes to learn!
Reply:yep it is it takes hard work and anything that is competitive is a sport so heck yeah

My mum doesn't seem very supportive..?
I%26#039;ve never danced in my life and I said my two friends wanted me to learn how to breakdance because I%26#039;m quite strong (althoguh not strong enough yet). She laughed and said we come with really stupid ideas.
Should I just work up my strength, get quite good and then show her how if you set your mind to it you can do anything?

My mums never really supported anything ive done, but ive suceeded time and time again, so go for it, if its what you want to do.

don%26#039;t do something to show your mother your%26#039; a good kidd. Do the things you like, because you like them to do.
dancing is fun, always try something new and funny.
mums that laugh and say your ideas are stupid do not act very nice.
Reply:Find out where break dance is being taught, when the classes are and how much it costs. Take this information to your mum and tell her you%26#039;re serious about learning and ask for her support. She probably didn%26#039;t realise you were serious the first time you mentioned it. You might point out that doing a structured activity like this might help keep you away from the more negative activities you could be getting up to.
I wouldn%26#039;t advise trying to learn %26#039;on the street%26#039; - your head and neck would be quite vulnerable in such uncontrolled conditions.

Wanting to dance ballet again at 28?
I started dancing ballet at the age of 3 and danced for 6 years. My last year of dancing at the age of 10, I danced en pointe, danced 5 dances at recital and was also a cast member in Mosilyn Larkin%26#039;s %26quot;The Nutcracker%26quot; and performed for 4 nights. I was in way advanced classes for my age and it was time for me to start scouting a more professional dance school. I quit dancing because of lack of schooling in the area I was living and i started taking gymnastics instead and competed for 10 years. I still have a lot of strength, flexibility and I%26#039;m wanting to know if I can get back into ballet/en pointe, but I%26#039;m 28. I%26#039;m very petite with long arms, legs and short torso - 5%26#039; tall 105 lbs. Is this feasible? If so, where should I start as far as training level? I%26#039;m currently in Tucson and don%26#039;t know where to begin. I%26#039;m willing to do whatever it takes and i understand dancing professionally is out of reach because of my age.
Looking for pro and instuctor opinion/comments please.
Wanting to dance ballet again at 28?
Now, I am sure that there are many professional dance schools that offer adult classes. The dance school that I am currently attending has intermediate-advanced ballet, jazz, etc. classes for parents who want to learn what their children are learning, or simply catching up. The school is called the Edmonton school of ballet, you can check out the website at esbdance.com. Sorry, that%26#039;s the only thing I can think of right now.

What are some fast and easy stretching/strengthening moves for a ballerina?
Every night for a year, I%26#039;ve done my splits, leg lifts, calf stretches, and quad stretches.....
all of this takes under five minutes
i want to find new stretches to increase my flexibility, balance, and strength as a dancer
could u please suggest some things i can do that will take about 1 minute? and tell me which stretch would be most beneficial to me, and why. please describe in detail how to perform the stretch , how long it should take, and wy it would help a ballerina.
thanks!
What are some fast and easy stretching/strengthening moves for a ballerina?
Straddle streches- Make a straddle on the floor. Stretch to the middle. It only takes 1 minute if you stretch to the right and left too.
Backbends or bridges.
What are some fast and easy stretching/strengthening moves for a ballerina?
I really suggest Wii Fit! Even if you don%26#039;t have a wii, maybe a friend does. I am a very serious dance in teh New York City Ballet, and my brother has a wii and has wii fit! It has helped me so much with my strength (strength training), balance, (balance games) flexibility (yoga), and my stamina (aerobics).
It really works, trust me!
Reply:lie on the floor and put your legs up gaisnt a wall at 90 degrees then move them further and further apart
Reply:partner stretch:
-stand up straight against a wall
-lift up your leg (like you are doing a high kick) and have your partner hold it.
-your partner should push on your leg
-switch legs (both left and right legs should be stretched)
*this stretch increases flexibilty when kicking
about 3-5 minutes

Could anyone explain to me about complimentry dance movements?
Do you mean complementary (with an e not an i)? Complementary means that its addition makes something complete; where as Complimentary means making nice remarks about something. I suspect that complementary dance moves are ones that make the dance complete and whole (maybe so it fits a theme or style?), over and above the basic steps.
This, from a dance website %26quot;The primary format of the Charleston is a solo step that consists of four moves, arms and legs in complementary motion.%26quot; http://dance.lovetoknow.com/Charleston_D...
Could anyone explain to me about complimentry dance movements?
complementary or contemporary?
Could anyone explain to me about complimentry dance movements?
A complementary move can be one that %26#039;complements%26#039; another by being similar. For example - if you were choreographing a duet and one dancer held a position with her arms held out to the side - stood up - you may instruct the other dancer to do the same with her arms but knelt down in front. So the shape is similar but not exactly the same between the dancers - but the similarity between the two shapes %26#039;complement%26#039; each other.... does that make sense?? Its been a while since I used this technique - but think that is what it means - although not 100% certain...

more specifically like dancehall and soca. Where can I learn to do these dances?
Am i too old to start Freestyle Dancing?
I%26#039;m 13 and me and a couple of friends really love George Sampson and we really want to learn to dance like him. I%26#039;ve found a Dance School but i don%26#039;t know if i%26#039;m too old. I know i would never be as good as George Sampson because he is purely amazing. And does anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to have private lessons incase we are too old! But thankyou :)
Am i too old to start Freestyle Dancing?
You can NEVER be too old to do anything.
When I saw the title of this question I was expecting you to be 80 or something! lol
Am i too old to start Freestyle Dancing?
No you are not too old, and if you go to a dance studio for lessons and they say that you are, they%26#039;re lying. Cost of lessons depends and were you go. You can start out at like the YMCA for next to nothing and go all the way up to places like Julliard. Call around and ask.
Reply:Too old lol i hope your not too old, because im 16 and Female lol so i hope i wouldn%26#039;t get criticised for it e.g. your not strong enough even though that%26#039;s a load of rubbish their just sexist, i also too love George Sampson he is just a great dancer, i started to learn the other day in my bedroom lol which is not great but i couldnt wait to try some stuff out, i got some moves from youtube on expert village, it really helps and they teach you the basics first, im going to get street/breakdance lessons with my friends, it%26#039;s not that expensive to learn with a class should be anything from 拢6 to 拢15 but for private for one hour most likely depending on what size studio you want from 拢20-拢50, i was going to get lesson at pineapple studio%26#039;s in covent garden, which is aparently meant to be the best dance studio%26#039;s in around the world, but im not too sure where i will be learning yet i might be going to get my lessons at expressions studio%26#039;s in Highgate road, North London right by Kentish town road which is really good and popular it%26#039;s been used for stricly come dancing rehearsals and many famous people have been their before such as Mark Owen :D who i absolutely love lol. pineapple and expressions studio%26#039;s are roughly the same price, pineapple studio%26#039;s are all around England, but im not too sure about expression studio%26#039;s, it depends if you live in London or not because then you will be able to travel their easily, anyways here are the websites for you too see which is you favourite, personally i think pineapple

Whats the right sort of figure for dancing ?
Ive got quite strong ankles, strong calves, my thighs are one of the problems. their quite big although not fat their just muscly( spelling?), my flexability is good and my tummy muscles are very strong, my bum ... hmmm lol ( moving on ) lol
Is there a chance that when i audition for dance schools they wont except me because of these. Im reasonably good at dancing ( not going to boast) and im flexible my teachers say im talented at turning and jumping( like leaps and other grande allegro) so is there a chance that the would not give me a chance for them to get me into their shape and that they would prjeudge me straight away because iam not exactly their ideal shape?
Whats the right sort of figure for dancing ?
Well, ideally they want you to have reasonably long legs and arms, be kinda skinny and have a flat chest. but for what u mentioned..........sounds like you%26#039;re pretty good. They judge primarily on what you are capable of in future, not now. Most phsical problems can be worked around so it shouldn%26#039;t be too much of a problem. Plus you have the good basics, strong tummy muscles and ankles, and flexibility are essential!Good luck!!!
Whats the right sort of figure for dancing ?
hmm, i don%26#039;t think so, aslong as youre not actually fat, but even if they do, just exercise and work on those big areas. and ive wanted to be a dancer all my life and never had the chance, so good luck! x
Reply:the one u hav
Reply:no. if they are smart they will not prejudge. there are great dancers of many sizes and as long as your stamina is up to par- then i see no problem.
good luck in everything you do. :)
Reply:i don%26#039;t think they will. you sound perfect to me and most ballet schools or companies accept that everyone is different. i had the same problem with my thighs, mine are pretty big but i worked out why and was able to fix it slightly, well prevent them getting worse. make sure when you are lifting your leg that you lift it from underneath and not from the top with your thigh muscle. the more you use it, the more strain your putting it under and the bigger it will get! happy dancing!

Websites where you can order Russian Pointe shoes?
I wear the Russian Pointe Dolce and I need a website where I can order them, any suggestions?
Websites where you can order Russian Pointe shoes?
dancedepot and discount dance=)
Websites where you can order Russian Pointe shoes?
I know you are looking for websites, but I highly recommend going straight to a store. Sometimes, they change how a pointe shoe is made, so you dont know if it still works for your feet.

How can i get a lot better at dance this summer.?
what would really help is a ballet class. they would work you on all of those things. although it sounds like you need a little more work before you try out for something like that. the things you%26#039;ve listed are pretty basic.
